About Dental Implants
Posted on 8/20/2017 by Dr. Karl Zeren
Dental implants are designed to provide a foundation for replacement teeth that look, feel, and function like natural teeth. The person who has lost teeth regains the ability to eat virtually anything and can smile with confidence, knowing that teeth appear natural and that facial contours will be preserved. The implants themselves are titanium posts that are placed into the jawbone where teeth are missing. The bone fuses (osseointegration) with the titanium, creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth. In addition, implants can help preserve facial structure, preventing the bone deterioration that occurs when teeth are missing. Dental implants are truly changing the way people live! With them, people are rediscovering the comfort and confidence to eat, speak, laugh, and enjoy life. Dr. Zeren has extensive training and experience in all phases of implant dentistry. He is Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Maryland, actively training residents in both Periodontics and Implant Periodontal Prosthetics. Dr. Zeren is also actively engaged in clinical research and has lectured extensively on dental implants. Being leader in his field, he trains and mentors other clinicians on both the surgical and prosthetic phases of implant dentistry. Dr. Zeren earned his Specialty Certification in Periodontology at the prestigious University of Maryland, and is Board Certified by the American Board of Periodontology. This is an acknowledgement and demonstration of his mastery of Periodontics and Implantology by nationally chosen members of the Specialty Board. Dental implants can be your doorway to renewed self-confidence and peace of mind. A Swedish scientist and orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Per-Ingvar Branemark, developed this concept for oral rehabilitation more than thirty-five years ago. With his pioneering research, Dr. Branemark opened the door to a lifetime of renewed comfort and self-confidence for millions of individuals facing the frustration and embarrassment of tooth loss.
